About Us

What is Kingwood Strength & Conditioning about?

Our History

Kingwood Strength & Conditioning was opened in January 2008 by dedicated trainer and strength coach Andy Baker.

KSC was founded with the client in mind, as an alternative to the large commercial health clubs. The health club industry is about selling memberships it is not about health….their business model revolves around the idea of signing as many people as possible and servicing as few as possible. They like nothing better than for you to sign a three year membership and never show up again.

My primary concern is always on providing my clients with the information and instruction that will help make them more fit.  Every client has an individualized program that is focused on making them stronger, improving their conditioning, and improving their body composition.

What is Kingwood Strength & Conditioning?

KSC is a private personal training gym dedicated to those who want to take a serious approach to fitness.  Our training is conducted in private so there are no distractions, no waiting for equipment, and no crowds.  I believe in teaching and training the basic free weight movements coupled with a little bit of high intensity anaerobic conditioning.

Each session is conducted with with me and each workout is already laid out for you before you walk in the door.  There is no guesswork on your part about exercises, sets, reps, etc.

 Why are we different?

We believe that Kingwood Strength & Conditioning is the only gym of its kind here in Kingwood.  Unlike the large health clubs we don’t sign you to three year contracts, we do not sell merchandise, we do not have a day spa, and we aren’t staffed by “trainers” who are “certified” by a 25 question online test.

Additionally, we do not offer “bootcamps.”  Unfortunatley I have yet to see a “bootcamp” that can deliver on its promise to get you in shape.  Unfortunately, there is only so much you can do in a parking lot with a pair of 5 lb dumbells and some rubber bands.  “Bootcamps” are gimmicks that make trainers lots of money and waste the clients time.

At KSC, its not about memberships or high pressure sales; in fact, we do neither here.  The clients at KSC are here to train hard and get in shape.

We aren’t going to wow anyone with brand new, state of the art, sparkling equipment or flat screen t.v’s on every wall.  We are a strength & conditioning facility and our business model revolves around ensuring that each of our clients or athletes is getting the best personal training possible and experiencing real and dramatic results.  I believe that the service I provide essentially sells itself, as 90% of my business is based on referrals from current clients.

At KSC we are not afraid to train hard, and we do our best to foster an environment conducive to serious physical training.  We are the only gym in Kingwood licensed to administer the Crossfit program.

Who is a candidate to train at KSC?

Anyone looking to improve their levels of fitness, physical health or athletic performance can benefit from  training at Kingwood Strength & Conditioning.

I have college football players training at my facility as well as grand parents well into their 70’s, and everyone in between.   Anyone can benefit from getting stronger and better conditioned with the properly programmed strength training routine.

However, I do have high expectations and high standards for my clients. Clients are expected to be on time, be consistent, and work hard.

What is the training like?

We realize that not everybody is in good shape, and may be apprehensive about starting an exercise program.  Some of my current clients had not exercised in 20-30 years before starting up with me, so if you are a beginner to exercise, you will be given a workload that you can handle, and we will gradually increase the volume and intensity of exercise as you become stronger and more conditioned.

There is no one set training program for everybody.  Obviously, a high school or college athlete will have a different program than a middle aged person who hasn’t exercised in 10 years.  However, my focus is always on making my clients stronger and better conditioned no matter what specific program is used.

The programs here are demanding and you will sweat, breath hard, and experience some muscle soreness. However, I have yet to find a method that works that doesn’t require some fairly serious effort.
